How to Make An Invigorating Peppermint Shower Cleaning Spray

There’s few things more refreshing than the smell of peppermint. Imagine being surrounded by the delicious scent every time you shower while keeping your bathroom nice and shiny too!

Soap scum is my pet hate. After spending an hour on my hands on knees scrubbing the shower clean, it’s irritating to see soap scum starting to build up just a few days later.

I’ve recently discovered this shower spray gem as a fantastic way to keep the shower sparkling in between cleans. Let’s face it – who wants to spend their weekends scrubbing the bathroom?

 

Peppermint Shower Cleaning Spray Recipe

 

What you'll need

• 1/2 cup of vodka

• 1 cup water

• 10 drops peppermint essential oil

• glass spray bottle

If you’re not keen on using your favourite vodka for this purpose, you can try rubbing alcohol (Isocol) instead.

Note: We use a glass spray bottle because the essential oils can wear plastic bottles down over time.

 

Directions

1. Mix all ingredients in amber glass spray bottle and you're done!

 

How to use

1. Just wipe over the shower as you usually do so you’ve got a clean slate, so to speak. Mix the above ingredients together in a spray bottle and keep it in the shower caddy.

2. Every day after your shower, spray the mix on shower doors and on your bath if you have one. Keep a squeegee nearby to wipe down quickly after you spray so you don’t leave water marks behind. No need to rinse!

 

Additional pointers

• I picked up an amber glass spray bottle in Target’s laundry section for $3

• If using rubbing alcohol, dilute with about 30% water

• Mix it up with a few different oils. I used a citrus blend in mine and it smells phenomenal!

 

Why are peppermint and vodka good for cleaning?

The main active ingredient is the vodka in this recipe. Vodka is an extremely effective cleaner that can cut through grease and oil, while disinfecting surfaces and killing germs. Unlike commercial cleaners, ingesting this one doesn’t spell disaster. Just keep out of the kids’ reach! We’ve compiled some other great cleaning uses for vodka here. Rubbing alcohol also works very effectively because of its amazing disinfecting properties.

Peppermint oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties so it’s a fantastic addition to any homemade cleaner. Eucalyptus and tea tree oil are winners too.
