To begin, we will thoroughly clean the area that is being sanded and will punch nails deeper into the floorboards where needed.

We’ll sand the floor with a weighted rotary sander, which removes less timber than a belt sander, so your floor will last longer.

While sanding, we use gradually finer grades of sandpaper to ensure a smooth finish.

Our team will sand the edges using a hand-held rotary sander. The final sand will be completed with an orbital sander, leaving a scratch-free finish.

We apply a barrier seal to prepare it for coating. This can be followed by a thin coat of a desired toner if needed.

Two coats of a high density, two-pack water-based polyurethane are applied for a durable finish.

Experience Counts

You want the experts looking after your important timber floors. After more than 35 years in the business, our experience getting great results is unrivalled. In 2018, we refinished more than 2000 wood floors across the country, achieving fantastic results for a range of floors. We can offer you a range of floor refinishing services, so we can provide whatever service is required for the best possible results for your floor.

We Don’t Cut Corners

Our technicians guarantee an all-inclusive floor sanding and refinishing process. By using a weighted rotary sander instead of a belt sander, we take off less wood during the sanding process so your floorboards will last longer. This means we can refinish delicate timber floors without causing damage to them. We always use at least three grades of sanding discs, gradually increasing the fineness to remove damage without risking sanding swirls or scratches.

We’ll discuss with you what kind of finishes or toners you might want for your floorboards, as well as all pricing costs. Our experts will use the right sandpaper grades for the age and condition of your floor, ensuring we get you a great result without damaging your floors.

Our Costs

Our quotes include GST and our costs are all-inclusive. We do charge a $30 fee to inspect and quote, but once you pick us, the fee is refunded.

The costs for floor sanding and refinishing vary in different parts of the country, and depend on the size of the room and the condition your floors are in.

You can book a technician to come give you a quote for exact pricing, call 13 27 13 or email [email protected] for more pricing information.

You will need to remove personal items and furniture from the room being sanded. We can work around heavy items like fridges, for example.

We can sand a small job (a single room) in a day while a medium jobs (up to 75 square metres) should take two to three days. The timing for larger jobs is based on the size of the floor and the amount of work required. We’ll speak to you about timing when we’re quoting the job. Staining the floor or doing optional extras such as whitewashing will increase the time by 24 to 48 hours.

It will be ready to walk on the day after we complete the job but we do recommend wearing socks for the next couple of days. You can return your furniture the next day, but you will need to attach new furniture pads under your furniture to prevent scratching. Heavy wheeled items must be kept off the floor for a week, as well as rugs and other floor coverings.

While many floor sanding companies have a technician and a junior apprentice doing the job, we have a highly skilled two-man crew attending to your floors. Other companies will apply two or three solvent-based coatings, taking a day to dry between each coat. Electrodry Ballarat uses a rapid-curing two-pack floor coating that lets us apply multiple coats of polyurethane in one day.

In most cases, finding somewhere to stay is the best option. If you are pregnant or have asthma this is a good idea as the smells and noise may be problematic. Please feel free to stay if the work is being done in a room you don’t use often. Just bear in mind that you will not be able to access or walk through the rooms being sanded.

At times, there may be odours while we’re applying polyurethane coatings, but these will dissipate quickly. There should be almost no detectable odour within four hours. We use high-quality water-based floor coatings that have rapid curing times and create minimal odours.

The Electrodry dust capture system collects most of the dust we create while sanding. Please be advised that there may still be a light film of dust left on surfaces in the sanding area, but we wipe down the surfaces as part of our process.

We are confident our process can remove most wooden floor damage, but some pre-existing issues may remain or could affect the finish. These include:

1) Deep cuts in your floorboards cannot be sanded out, as the level we would have to sand the boards to would make the floor dangerously thin.

2) Weathered or water damaged floorboards may need to be replaced or may affect the tone and evenness of the end result.

3) Floors stained by urine may still have dark stains after sanding.

Electrodry Ballarat offers sanding and polishing services for hardwood and engineered wood floors. Engineered floors have a 2-3mm timber veneer over MDF board, which can be safely sanded using our rotary sanding process. It is important to note that engineered floors can only be sanded once.

Electrodry’s Timber Refresh and Timber Restore service is an excellent option for floors with small scratches, are worn, discoloured or have a build-up of dirt and cleaning solutions. Both of these services take just one day and are cheaper than sanding. We find that some floors need more though. Electrodry Wood Floor Sanding is a great option if your floor is seriously scratched or unevenly worn. Please see our Wood Floor Refinishing page contains a full comparison between our different options for your floor.
