How to Create A Natural Insect Repellant Using Basil
With great heat comes pesky mosquitos that can leave red welts and leave you scratching uncontrollably.
If you’re worried about chemicals and their long-term effect on our bodies, here’s a secret that we’ll share with you: BASIL!
What makes it such an effective organic insect repellant, you ask? It contains estragole, citronellal, limonene and nerolidol which makes it an effective alternative. So how can we use this as our natural insect repellant? Here’s our answer!
What You'll Need:
- 1 heaped cup of fresh basil leaves
- 10 drops of basil essential oil (optional)
- 1/2 cup of boiling water
- 1/2 cup of Isocol
Instructions:
Step 1. Clean the basil stems and leaves thoroughly to remove dirt or debris.
Step 2. Place them in a glass jug and pour boiling water. Add the isocol, combining the mixture together. Soak for several hours.
Step 3. After several hours, remove the leaves and transfer the basil-infused water into a spray bottle. Be careful to squeeze every last drop of liquid out of the leaves and into the spray bottle.

Step 4.Attach the spray nozzle and spray directly onto the skin or clothes to repel stinging insects. Avoid spraying into the eyes, mouth or nasal cavity and keep out of children's reach.
