How To Get An Accurate Quote For Carpet Cleaning
Last Friday I went on the road with one of our cleaning technicians, Grahame, in Canberra. The experience made me think about the quotation process and how to obtain an accurate quote prior to the technician arriving on your doorstep. Here are a few things to consider.
The first thing Grahame does after greeting the client is clarify what the job is. The job I attended with Grahame was scheduled for 4 rooms and already at the start of the pre-inspection, Grahame can see that one of the rooms is half as big again than the size of a standard room.
All cleaning companies charge differently. Some charge per square metre and others make it up as they go along. An important thing to remember when booking Electrodry Carpet Dry Clean Canberra, is that the standard size for a room is approximately 3.3 x 4 m² (13 square metres in total) – if a room is much larger than that, additional charges will have to be incurred due to the extra time that will be taken to do the job and the additional cleaning solutions that need to be used. In this case, Grahame charged a percentage of an additional room fee. Additional rooms are charged at $35, so Grahame charged an extra $20 for the larger sized lounge room.
If you know the rough size of your rooms when booking you can get a more accurate quote in advance of the job.
Another point to consider when asking the salesperson for a quote, is just how stained the carpet is. Do you have coloured or prominent stains, or particularly high traffic areas that have become badly marked? If the carpet is very badly stained and marked, additional treatment may be necessary and so, additional costs incurred.
Grahame treated today’s carpet twice before beginning the rotary clean as it was an old, badly marked carpet. First he treated it with a strong pre-treatment spray and then with the standard solution. As Grahame explained, cleaning soiled carpet is standard for the job, but some carpets and stains simply require more than standard cleaning processes. In this case, no additional charges were added, but sometimes the time and additional cleaning solutions are so great that they have to charge for it. Customers shouldn’t underestimate the Electrodry Carpet Dry Cleaning technician’s desire for job satisfaction though. They like to do a good job – it makes them happy!
Tell the Electrodry Carpet Dry Cleaning salesperson how badly stained your carpet may be for a more accurate quote.
Grahame asked the customer if they would like their carpets treated with a carpet sanitiser so that bacteria, mould and germs will continue to be treated for long after the carpets have been cleaned, ensuring a more healthy environment for the family. In this case, the customer was keen and additional charges were added to the quote.
Consider treating your carpets with a sanitiser to kill germs and bacteria for up to 6 months and tell the salesperson when making your booking.
Don’t forget your rugs. The customer at today’s job had forgotten about their rug. They had booked the carpet clean for their 4 rooms and forgot about the large rug that they used in the living room. When Grahame asked them if they wanted that included, of course they said yes, because what’s the point in having your carpets cleaned if you don’t also clean your rugs! The additional charge for rugs is $5 – $7 per square metre.
Don’t forget to mention your rugs when obtaining your quote.
At the end of this job, this carpet clean was slightly more than the original quote but the customer was very happy and pleased with the result. They knew that their carpets would continue to be bacteria and mould free for some time due to the sanitiser that had been applied and the stain removal on their old carpet was excellent.
